Pierce off to the Rockies?

In a bit of stunning news late Wednesday night, the Celtics are reportedly on the verge of sending Paul Pierce to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Andre Miller and Nene. While this deal can't be considered concrete news, it wouldn't be entirely shocking given the apparent directions each team is headed. More on this tomorrow...

Now I see why I had 4 missed calls from Paul this morning. Glad to see it's a bogus Pierce trade rather than Paul dying in a ditch somewhere. Anyway, WEEI, a Boston sports radio station supposedly has spoken to Danny Ainge regarding the rumor and the Celtics Prez of Bball Ops has shot it down. As a Celtics fan however, I'd almost be in favor of this deal. Projected starting lineup:

PG: A. Miller
SG: R. Davis
SF: R. Gomes
PF: A. Jefferson
C: Nene

Celtics need a better PG and a future center (Perkins isn't going to cut it). With Pierce's attitude problems, why not hand the reigns to Miller?

I'm an aging C's fan and I'd be pretty tempted to make this deal. Unfortunately, it's been floating around for a while - I remember hearing a similar version last year as Denver was struggling to find any outside help - and it came to naught then, as now. However, I wouldn't be surprised to have Danny pull the trigger if he could move Marcus and Qyntel or Borchardt first - he has too many guarantees already and a two for one just makes it worse. I think he sincerely hopes to get something for these "spare parts" as opposed to just cutting them lose.

The Lakers wanted Marcus last year. Maybe they'd take a Woods or Borchardt for some future picks to make it happen?

I'd also bring Nene off the bench and start Raef - Nene can then fill in for whichever of the two bigs gets in foul trouble first (Raef gets pretty schooled by the more mobile PF in the East). Nene and Al would be pretty punishing though!
