Jason Collier, 1977 - 2005

In just a totally tragic occurence this morning, the NBA and the Atlanta Hawks lost a family member when 28 year-old Jason Collier passed away, likely to cardiac arrest. The NBA Source would like to send their deepest condolences out to Jason's family and the Atlanta Hawks. It's times like these where we're really forced to put things into perspective. Basketball is just a game and though we love to take it so seriously, it's not a matter of life or death. Although I'm sure most of us will remember Jason Collier best as the basketball player, I'm sure there's a lot of great things about the man that people will speak of in wake of the tragedy. After all, nobody should be remembered just as a basketball player, but as a human being.

Nice piece. Also, I appreciate the sentiment and the photo to match. Aside from Hawks fans, and probably the local people in his hometown and around his university, he wasn't a well known individual.

The national/international basketball scene never learned much about Collier, but we'll miss him all the same.
