Monday's Picks

December 12, 2005

Home Team in CAPS

Ant's Picks:

Last Night: (2-2); Last Week: (22-26); Month: (40-47); Season: (152-138)

  • PHILADELPHIA -1.5 over Minnesota
  • NEW YORK -2.5 over Milwaukee
  • Lakers +7.5 over DALLAS
  • New Orleans/OKC +12 over PHOENIX
  • UTAH +7 over Detroit

Paul's Picks:

Last Night: (3-1); Last Week: (24-24); Month: (46-41); Season: (152-138)

  • PHILADELPHIA -1.5 over Minnesota *LOCK*
  • NEW YORK -2.5 over Milwaukee
  • Lakers +7.5 over DALLAS
  • New Orleans/Oklahoma City +12 over PHOENIX *James Jones, Leandro Barbosa Out*
  • Detroit -7 over UTAH

--A few reasons why I'm locking Philly-- 1) Minnesota has won 5 straight overall and 5 straight on the road. They should be favored in this game. 2) Philly has won each of their last 5 contests when they've outrebounded their opponents. Minnesota on average gets outrebounded 43-37 on the road. 3) Philly has been able to control the pace all season long in their building and I expect them to push hard against the Wolves. Minnesota will struggle when they have to play catch-up. PHI 97-92

--I'll be at the Knicks/Bucks game, but unfortunately I'll be cheering on the Knicks for all the wrong reasons (see pick above). These two always play each other tough so it should make for an exciting game. I like the Knicks to go on a mini-run starting with a win tonight and impending games vs Orlando and at Atlanta later this week. NYK 94-90

--Kobe always gears up for the Mavs and with Josh Howard sidelined and Michael Finley no longer with the team, I'm not sure who Avery Johnson plans on throwing at him. Whoever it is (Daniels, Harris?) better be ready because this Lakers team is starting to get it together and it's all because of the way Kobe is playing. Upset special. LAL 106-103

--The Suns were a worn-down bunch in their loss to the Clippers at Staples on Saturday, and they won't be any better off tonight against the Hornets with James Jones and Leandro Barbosa both out due to injuries they suffered against the Clippers. The Suns swept the four meetings last season, but never won by more than 14. PHX 101-89

--The last game is a total mismatch-- how do the Jazz plan on scoring against Detroit? In games against four of the top rated defensive teams in the league, Utah has posted scoring totals of 62 vs New York, 72 vs Memphis, 60 vs Indiana, and a whopping 77 vs Minnesota. I'd lock this game, but Utah has taken 12 of 15 from Detroit at the Delta Center. DET 89-70
